Simple nest shelves are utilized by several species of birds. American Robins, Mourning Doves and Eastern Phoebes are famous for nesting on window sills, crossbeams and other ledges. A nesting shelf can be attached to your house, a fence or many other surfaces as long as it is at least 5 ft. off of the ground. Like other nest boxes, it is a good idea to face them east if possible.
